PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THIS POSITION:
The Carroll County Forestry Board (CCFB) promotes stewardship, conservation, and sustainable
use of Carroll County’s forest resources. CCFB has identified non-native invasive species as a
serious threat to its mission. The Volunteer Maryland Coordinator (VMC) will recruit Weed
Warriors, volunteers who identify and manage invasive species populations on Carroll County
public land. The VMC will work with staff to help identify and train a single volunteer or group
of corps volunteers that will assume responsibility of running the Piney Run Weed Warrior
program. In addition, the VMC may begin to duplicate the volunteer recruitment efforts of Piney
Run park at another park located in Charolotte’s Quest. This development is contingent on the
continued program success at Piney Run.
This is an 11 month, full-time (40 hours/week) paid position as a member of the Volunteer Maryland
(VM) AmeriCorps program serving at the Carroll County Forestry Board. Volunteer Maryland
Coordinators (VMCs) are responsible for developing and implementing a volunteer program as
agreed to in the VM site partnership negotiations that occurred in spring, 2015. The VMC
service year will begin on September 23, 2015 and conclude on August 9, 2016; Volunteer
Maryland Coordinators are expected to complete 1,700 hours of service during the term.
